About Ila

Ila Kellermann is an expressionist painter who uses a dramatic, vivid palette and the layering and texturing of paint paired with a sense of impulsiveness to reflect the joy of life and those everyday moments that are both narrative and celebratory. Ila graduated with an Honors BFA and a BEd from York University. An ardent love for the outdoors and nature brought her to work for several years in James Bay with the Cree nations, and later to northern British Columbia with the department of Indian and Northern Affairs to work on a remote reserve with the Talthan Nation in Iskut. She is currently a full-time visual arts teacher at the elementary, secondary and post-secondary levels. Ila works from her Hawkwaters studio in Elmvale, Ontario and tends to her hobby farm with her husband and two children. For contact information and pictures of the studio, click here.
